America
“Happy Election Day.” Thats the text message I’ve got from more than a few friends this morning.  I just want to share my own joy and pride to be alive and to be a part of this country on this day.  This is our time. We are entering our Golden Age.  When we look back at this when we are old, we will know it as the time when America got its transfusion; with the red blood of...

Its here. This is why we live here.  Its been announced: we are playing our final show of this crazy year, in the only place we could: Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I don’t know when tickets go on sale or anything, but soon… We are playing the State Theatre downtown on Dec. 22nd. I can’t wait to be there and share the show with anyone of you that can make it. Can’t wait. In...

We are Home.
We are home. And you may or may not know how incredible it is to say. Sean gets married this weekend.  We are drinking coffee at Racy’s.  We are drinking beer at the Joynt. We are eating at Egg Rolls Plus. We are driving in the sun, the sumac red trees and golden mazes.  We are home. Wanted to add to the “year end thanks” list previously talked about: My friend Beth...

Here we are. Whoa.
So. We are in Groningen, Holland. Just woke up and walked into this indoor festival we are playing called Take Root. AND… I’m blown away.  I had no idea where we were even playing today, let alone a festival, let alone in this AMAZING room. Then I looked at the posters, and realized John Hiatt is playing. And I may get to meet him today.  I cannot tell you how many times, in Autumn,...

Year End Thanks. Early.
Hi. …was thinking today that there are so many people to thank and that I should make a list and put it out at christmas, just saying… you know, “We owe you our life”, kind of thing. But was also thinking whats better than the moment of thanks, to give that thanks.  So, today, I was thinking about Ryan Matteson. The man behind the Muzzle of Bees blog.  Now, we’re...

A Farewell to a House In New Auburn, WI
On Monday Night, I travelled to a house in New Auburn I’ve been too many times in the last 5 years. It was 5 years ago that I first met Mike Perry.  It just so happens that this man, who I met through my best friends Phil and Brad (who were babysat by Mike when they were young) is a very, very well known author from said town. He wrote a book, Population 485, about.. .well, I could tell you...

Paris, Paris, Paris.
Hi Everyone, we are home. we feel like we are resting. its good. we had an AMAZING time in Europe. We loved it. Everyone we met was incredible and so nice. In every city, little to big, we could have not had a more beautiful time. Impossible. A highlight, not just of the tour, but of our lives, was playing for 30 or 40 people in a apartment in Paris. It was incredibly special, no amps, no pa,...

At the Foot of Black Mountain
Hey er’body,  We have embarked on our U.S. and Canadian tour with label-mates, Black Mountain.  We feel lucky, and jazzed.  We listen to their record constantly in the van, and alway get huge smiles on our faces when the first notes of “Stormy High” chime in through the PA. Our new friends hit Conan O’Brien tonight, and we are playing the wonderful Sound Fix Records in...

Last January. Journal entry.
January 3, 2007 i reallllllly think i am going out of my head sometimes. im watching re-run marathons of sexual victims shows and shows about sex in the city, in a little barn house that my father built. He started in ‘79 and we just put in a toilet and a shower a couple of months ago. Im atleast 60 miles away from anyone I love, sometimes more like 1500. I am about 18 feet away from...

December. Tonight, I will bury my powerbook in...
December 6th, 2006 Tonight, I bury my past and powerbook in the new fallen snow. Tonight, I will bury my powerbook in the snow. This seems a) like a waste of money, even if it was a junker — I could atleast sell it. b) rather dramatic considering right next to the new fallen snow is a BFI co. garbage hauler. But, nevertheless, I will proceed. I have heard computer crashing stories, never...

Two November's ago.
November 17th, 2006 I’m now technically back home. Although home is much more north than it has been for the last 25 years. The last few months in Raleigh, were… many things… trying, rewarding, hard, sad, exciting. Right now, I am just glad to not have a plan and to be able to concentrate on music. Not where to play it, not when, not with who; just music. And I have that now....
